Blake Pride Series Book Three JoAnna Grace Genre: Paranormal Romance Publisher: JoAnna Grace- Winged J Press Date of Publication: July 21st 2015 ISBN: 978-1-940-460-24-6 ASIN: B00ZY8B24Q Number of pages: aprox 189 Word Count: 55,650 Cover Artist: Jleeann.com Book Description: With two newly mated couples in the alpha house, Conall needs a serious breather. He’s used to being the fifth wheel but now the distinction is amplified. When the opportunity for a couple days of freedom arises, he volunteers to take winter supplies to a mountain-dwelling widow and then spend some time hiking alone. Plans change when he meets a woman who evokes his lion’s protective streak and stirs his human desires. She meets none of his expectations for a mate, but that might be exactly what he needs. Madelyn has been alone for nearly a decade. Ashamed of what she has become, she banished herself from the Blackburn Pack and resigned herself to a solitary life in the mountains. With no plans of change, it’s alarming when a young, alluring lion shifter arrives awakening her senses and challenging her situation. Her inner bear is still haunted by the last man who tried to claim her and she doesn’t want to make the same mistake again. Madelyn must discern if Conall is worth the risk or of he’s another heartbreak just waiting to happen. While Conall is tucked away in the woods with Madelyn, the rest of his Pride faces an attack. In haste to go rescue his friends, he might throw the most vulnerable person of all to the wolves. But are they friend or foe? Available at Amazon Excerpt: Leaving the truck, he unhitched the cart. It was colder up here, but his lion didn’t mind. Conall sniffed the area, made sure no unsuspecting humans were going to get the scare of a lifetime, and shifted into a massive African lion. The harness he and Sampson rigged up last night worked perfectly. He slipped it over his head, resting it on his shoulders. The lion started his trek up the mountains, having memorized the map. It was all too easy to let his mind wander, to think about absolutely nothing except for where his paws would land with the next step. The walking path to the cabin was clear if you knew to look for the notches in the trees. He could travel like this all day and not get bored, never tire. Being in the wilderness liberated his lion; the burden he carried behind him only added a minor challenge to his muscular frame. This was exactly what he needed. The next four hours passed slowly and quietly, a vast change from the chaos of the last few weeks. For the first time in a long time, he turned off his brain and let his lion dominate his actions. His wide paws navigated the terrain with no problems. His ears alerted him to the movement of the forest creatures and his nose picked up the various scents of nature. Conall lost himself into his lion and his human counterpart took a well-needed mental nap. Then he heard an angel. The voice echoed around the woods and he froze with one paw off the ground. His feline ears perked up. After living with Vivian Blake, diva extraordinaire, for five years, he knew musical talent when he heard it. Vivian had the most beautiful voice he’d ever heard…until right then. Closing his eyes, he crouched down, still as death, to listen. The notes rose and fell flawlessly on pitch and with incredible ease. Her range was awe-inspiring. His breath caught in his throat as he listened to her build up to a note so high and delicate, it caused his heart to soar in anticipation. The emotion of the words, the love conveyed in every measure resonated in his chest. Tendrils of melody wrapped around him, gripping him tighter with every beat. Had he been in human form, he might have fallen to his knees. As it was, the four legs of his lion shook with the driving need to get closer to the source of such mesmerizing singing. He took cautious steps over the crest of the hill to look upon the cottage set snugly among the evergreens. Green tin roof and logs made from local timber provided camouflage. Smoke rose from the chimney; the smell traveling the air currents was divine. Three chairs rocked on the porch, pushed by the invisible hands of the wind. Although the coming winter cold had scared them away, it was clear the cottage was usually framed with flowers. A brown picket fence protected a garden. He envisioned Snow White singing to the forest creatures as they scuttled around her feet. Ha, he thought. Any moment now, some old woman would come outside with a radio in her hand. He didn’t want the fantasy to end. The lion closed his eyes and let the gentle voice wash over him. Peace settled in his chest, a heavy weight dissolved from his shoulders. The notes infiltrated his veins and he felt absolutely drunk with contentment. Her love song pierced him and eased each breath he took. Incredible… The notes cut off as soon as the wind shifted. “Who’s there?” chimed an angelic voice. His singer.
JoAnna Grace lives in a world of alpha males and strong females where true love conquers all—at least in her mind! Author of The Divine Chronicles, the Blake Pride Series, and more, this writer loves paranormal and urban fantasy romance novels.
From the time she started holding a crayon she began to create magical worlds. Her first book was a series of pictures about a puppy princess. The story changed each time she told it, but there was always a happy ending! Her first written story was about girls who changed into tigers. Now those stories have become a bit more complex. JoAnna’s tales are spun at her home in East Texas where she lives with her husband, three kids, and a couple dogs. When not hiding behind the computer screen you can find her camping, boating, and shopping. Faeries, werewolves and vampires, oh my! Fans of the TRUE BLOOD series will feel right at home in this character-driven diversity fest. As any good paranormal romance enthusiast knows, there are many kinds of creatures roaming within the pages of a fantasy story, and this author is not afraid to use them. Predictably, the hatred and war that can be expected between predators has existed between the wolf and vampire nations for centuries. The faery folk predict a future of peace. However, it seems unlikely when infighting threatens to upset the balance of power even within factions. Then, in true Romeo and Juliet fashion, Livvie, a wolf-less member of the Romulus pack, meets Darius, an ancient vampire and son of the Egyptian Sun God, Ra. The question is, of course, can their love become a bond that will heal the rift between their warring nations? The story is well written. All the loose threads come together. However, there seems to be a bit of confusion in the sentence structure on occasion. Sometimes, too, the dialogue characteristics aren’t in keeping with the character’s background and/or personality. It’s not enough of a problem to distract from the story, but some readers will notice. Also, although the plot doesn’t contradict itself and the story flows well, the pace feels a bit slow for a paranormal work. My personal taste runs toward more page-turning action and plot twists that spin faster. There are characters aplenty, so lots of food for an action feast. This is a good read. I recommend it to those who like a well-altered universe and some steamy romance. Also, I recommend it to those who always prefer the book over the movie so they can delve deeper into the characters’ background, motivation and emotions. You will not be disappointed. Book Bling gives this novel 4 Stars! First and foremost I am a wife and mother. I was born in England where I had a dream at the age of 14. That dream was to chase cattle on horseback across the Australian Outback. In 2008, I had the opportunity to follow that dream, and found myself travelling to Australia on an Outback working holiday, and I've chased cattle, on horse back, across the Outback. I met my soul mate, whilst on my working holiday, married him, and we have two beautiful daughters, and I'm still loving life in Australia. I love to read, much to my husbands dismay sometimes when I have my head metaphorically buried in the pages of a book (I mean, how can that be literal since the dawn of e-books?)! I love fantasy, I used to take myself away from my nasty world of bullies and appear in some wonderful land of dragons and magic! Pern was my all time favourite hide out world, God bless Anne and Todd MacCaffery. When I immersed myself in my fantasy worlds, I used to re-write the plots in my head, starring myself as some great, sword drawn character who wouldn't give two hoots what the local bully thought! That eventuated in my actually writing down my own stories. More recently I was inspired to start writing again, and I picked up on the whole craze of werewolf and vampire. I have had the most enjoyment writing AN UNEXPECTED BONDING, and the two books that will follow it. I hope you can find enjoyment in my hide away from reality! As the title suggests, this novelette is a thriller. Though as in most thrillers the conclusion is mandatory, this one sports a slight twist most won't see coming. The main character, Brad, is about as unlikeable as a man without hope can get, but not even he deserves what he gets. Or does he? Sometimes Karma IS a "B"! Choosing to do nothing is a choice, and often it is the wrong one. The reader will have to decide for themself if the characters in this story make the right choices. Since this is such a short work, saying much more about it would give too much away. It's enough to know that this story will make you think, about life, about how our lives are often intermingled with those of others in unexpected ways that leave us forever changed. Free with Kindle unlimited, if you hurry, this one is a fast read with no commercials! Book Bling gives this story 4 stars! L. Marshall James hails from northwest rural Pennsylvania, where he ran around barefoot and played 8-bit Nintendo when he wasn't playing with tar in the middle of the road. After a subpar high school performance, he obtained an associate's degree in information technology before realizing a powerful disdain for office jobs. Nonetheless, he worked in the IT field for over six years before calling it quits and joining his girlfriend in Southeast Asia for a traveling foray that lasted almost two years. He returned home just in time for Thanksgiving. Surprisingly enough, his family still loved him. At the time of publication, L. Marshall James is essentially a bum with no job and no permanent home. He would like to have both, but the wheres and hows of either are uncertain, as is much of his future.
I am struggling with my WIP right now. I have the synopsis, the characters, the beginning, but I still feel stuck. No way could or would I write an outline to every chapter as some writers I know. Honestly, I don't feel the need to be so tightly organized. It's not so much that I'm out of ideas or that I don't know the main events. The problem I am having is just getting the actual scenes down on paper. In fact, I am struggling to make myself open the file and freewrite until I unstop my stop. Am I alone in this?
Does anyone else ever find it difficult to get back into the flow, that groove of creativity where the characters just write it for you? Sigh. I know I'm a pantser, and I plan, always, to literally delete the first chapter, or even two. I like to brainstorm the "feel" of a piece, to get my creative juices running so that I have some momentum. So why this dead stop? Am I tired of the storyline? No, I really like it. Do I hate the point of view? No, in fact I wrote the first chapter in both third and first point of view to get a feel for what I liked. Oh no, is this writer's block? Aaaaargh! No, not exactly. I know where I need to go. For some reason, I am not FLOWING. It is a struggle to move forward in an enjoyable rythm. Suggestions?

Nothing like winning cool things when the weather heats up . That’s why a group of author/blogger friends and I have banded together to fan the flames of summer with FREE stuff any romance reader would love.
In case you still haven't read Illuminati: The Book of Life, spice up your summer heatwave with this excerpt! Then grab a copy before the sequel comes out! “I-I wasn’t going anywhere. Where would I go?” “Wherever you like, as long as you’re safe. I was just hoping you’d like to stay here. With me.” She stared at him silently, and he wished he knew what she was thinking. He glanced at her lips, noting that they were again soft and smooth, full and enticing. Her tongue slipped between them and lathered them with a wet sheen. It was her complete lack of artifice that made the movement so seductive. He remembered kissing her before, her inexperienced awareness and natural passion, a heady combination. Her eyes darkened from lavender to violet to that cerulean blue. The pupils dilated. He leaned forward by a mere few inches and paused. Her cheeks were flushed, and he detected a sudden increase in the rise and fall of her chest. It nearly matched his own. His rigid control had become an almost painful entity. Unable to resist, he reached out and palmed her cheek, running his thumb across the full suppleness of her bottom lip. A puff of warm breath rushed between her lips and she stared up at him expectantly. He moved his thumb to trace the bow of her upper lip, a trail his tongue had once journeyed. The remembrance of it flickered in her eyes. Lifting his hand, he ran his finger down the bridge of her nose, now petite and straight once again, with no swelling or bruising. And then he stroked her cheek with his thumb. He leaned closer, gazing into her eyes and said, “Your eyes express every sensation you experience. I want to experience them with you.” She reached up to grab the back of his head and pulled him down until she could capture his lips with hers. He raised his head and took a deep breath. “Kiss me, Luc. I want you to kiss me,” she said. Not one to argue first thing in the morning, he did as he was told and kissed her long and well and then turned to his back and pulled her with him. Surprised, she moved up and over him, laying across his body as she lowered her mouth to learn more about the taste of his.

I've had the pleasure of seeing some poetry I've written published back in the day when I wore bell-bottoms and thought Cher was a fashionista. I've also been fortunate to have had some articles picked up on the topic of literacy when Barbara Bush made that issue the theme of her tenure as First Lady. But none of this prepared me for the publication of my flrst novel. My target audience was Young Adult Readers and my genre was Urban Fantasy/Paranormal. It seems a perfect vehicle for my fanciful imaginings and if you think "Harry Potter" you'll know what my influences were. Before I had a chance to slip into any kind of false humility at my accomplishment,or worse yet, become self effacing at praise for my hard work, I was hit with the "business-end" of the reality stick! You Write It, You Sell It I was strongly "encouraged" by my Publisher, Tell-Tale Publishing, to go to work and promote my mewling infant of a novel because that's how the publishing industry works. You write it-you sell it! Or at least that's the routine for neophyte writers like me, without the beneflt of a successful career to stack up against the push to self-promotel While I have used computers most of my adult life, I still don't have the competency of my 11 year old granddaughter to negotiate the subtleties of on-line social networking. Twitter, Pinterest, Goodreads, google+ and of course, Facebook, are all part of the tools of my trade as an author in today's marketplace. Like any business person, I now had to pose my product (my book) in flatterlng language, reach out to the known and unknown reader alike and sell the idea of buying my novel. While I would never dream of standing on a street corner selling paintings of Elvis on velvet, I am now reaching out to perfect strangers, who just happen to be friends, of friends, of friends. Like some bizarre DNA sequence of an alien being, my Facebook connections are giving life to a monster Mary Shelly would have loved! And speaking of Frankenstein, I needed to give life to a medla packet of my own devising. Packaging of any product needs to be attention grabbing to stand out among the many items surrounding. The same goes for trying to put a spotlight on yourself as a writer and your book as good entertainment. Sitting down at my computer under some duress, as it is spring after all...l had to develop a business plan of sorts: First, create the product. My target audience was Young Adult Readers and my genre was Urban Fantasy/Paranormal. It seems a perfect vehicle for my fanciful imaginings and if you think "Harry Potter" you'd know what my influences were. Very excitedly, I lined up a flrst Book Signing Tour! I call it a "tour" because I'11 probably walk around the store a lot since I can't resist the call of so many books! Hopefully, I will not only sell all of my copies, but I'11 also make 1oyal customers who'll flnd me charming, witty and reasonably priced...not necessarily in that order. My favorite word Business acumen comes with experlence and hard lessons well-learned. Being an author comes with similar guidelines for a successful career. Use the experience of a great editor to guide your work and don't be blinded by the self-importance of being the creator of something new under the sun. It lsn't. It's all in how it was put together that makes it work. That includes imaginative packaglng, unique presentation and strong public awareness. In today's marketplace, we all must incorporate the power of the internet as it surely encircles our business life as much as it encircles the globe. Make it extiting, make it unique, make it part of the lexicon of the day. A while ago, I watched a fasclnating movie about the late Steve Jobs. Though hls name evokes memories of a dynamic innovator, lt was hls approach to the idea of what makes a product sell that really took hold in my lmagination. Make it exciting, make it unique, make it part of the lexicon of the day. And not just today...but tomorrow! I don't see myself as possessing the charismatic vigor of a Steve Jobs, but I do believe in my work and in my mission. I love to write and I love to turn hard work into hard won success. I guess being an author put me into the business of selling words and freeing of imagination with a story well told. A good place to be since my passion is for words and my favorite word is YES! [First published in Hamilton County Business Magazine.]
If you want to be a rock star, you need a platform so everyone can see you, especially if you're not very big yet, like the little guy to the left.
Though we're talking about being a writer instead of a singer, just another art form, you still need a platform. You need an author platform. In a previous blog, I talked about creating your author brand. Now I want to talk about expanding that brand and using it as the foundation for your author platform. Before you understand how to create or strengthen your author platform, it will be helpful to break it down into parts, especially for those authors just starting out. I have broken it down into four parts, and borrowed some memorable branding to keep it from getting too overwhelming. 1. You Rock, for Dummies. 2. Hello, can you hear me now? 3. Soylent Green and Social Media are people. 4. Just do it! YOU ROCK FOR DUMMIES This section answers the question of why you write what you write. They tell you to write what you know, but we all know a lot of things. How did you decide what to write about? It's probably something you know a lot about, or at least something you were interested in learning more about. By the time you finished your project I'll bet you were an expert. For me it was a classical education with a strong focus in Western Civ, ancient and medieval history, mythology and literature, and the heart of a true romantic. So of course I rock in Paranormal Romance! I write what a know and love! What could be more fun? HELLO, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? Since I love fantasy/paranormal/horror (think fairy tales!), I gravitate to those reads, readers, writers, and already knew quite a few of them before I retired from teaching and found time to write my own stories. Once I became a published author, I needed to expand that community, and slowly but surely continue to grow my list of contacts. One of the best ways for a writer to do this is to Google search your genre, find review sites, book clubs, writer groups in and/or out of Goodreads, blog and follow back blogs to expand your circle, and continue to grow your group of fans and favorites. Soylent Green and Social Media Are People For those of the younger generations (okay, most of you!), Soylent Green is an old Charlston Heston movie in which old folks go to a center where they find "rest" from a world they can no longer abide. What they and the rest of the population don't know is that they are turned into these little green wafers the population uses to get all their nutrition. But, you guessed it, Soylent Green is people! LOL! Well, as amusing as that may be, it sometimes seems like many folks who use social media don't realize that it's people too! To let them know you understand that, you need to chat with them once in a while, like their witty posts and adorable babies and establish human contact in this often too inhuman world. And don't forget library readings, and bookstore signings and podcast interviews or tv and radio! They still print newspapers, in case you didn't realize that! Use every opportunity you can work into your schedule. Always remember to have fun whenever you can too. I have friends who get a gang of gals together for large booksignings and they just love it! Just Do IT! The key is consistency, as any frazzled parent or teacher or coach can tell you! Can you keep up with every social media out there? It's not likely if you still have a full time job, kids, etc. ...you know, a life! So what is the solution? Pick only as many social media types as you can handle. Be choosy, cheerful, and consistent! Don't just self-promote. No one likes a bragger, or nonstop spam! Develop an audience that likes to hear from you, and then by all means the occasional promotion is fine. If all you have time for is fb and Twitter, so be it. If you like to browse and pin pictures, then by all means use Pinterest. Whatever works for you. That means whatever you can post something to at least every other day. On Twitter, you should really post at least one a day if possible. Don't beat yourself up about this. Just do your best, try to develop some good habits, and stick to them. You might like to notice on fb when you reach the most people. There are peak online times, and if you are going to post less frequently it's important to find and use them. Don't forget to use those blabbermouths you know and love either! Come on, every family has one, every circle of friends... Write on! Rock Star!

Life is stranger than fiction is one cliche that is true, especially for writers. That whole suspended disbelief tool is not as easy to use as one might think. If it sounds too far-fetched, readers just won't buy it. However, real life is often unbelievable--especially when it's true. Once I turned 18, Aunt Winnie called my dad and asked if I would like to meet my birth sister. Well, duh! And the rest, as they say.... We are such siblings as have never been parted for 16 years-- though we lived in adjacent cities. We are told we act a lot alike, even "sound" alike to the point most can't tell us apart on the phone. We have similar mannerisms, similar tastes and even share many skills and share tips on the same hobbies! Genetics.... So what about our folks? Believe it or not, Rippley, just today my daughter got back the results from a DNA test and became curious about her ancestry. She joined Ancestry and found this picture. Great Mother's Day gift, says I! The names, uniform, races, and period were a match. Here is my sister's only picture of herself as a baby, and our only picture of our birth parents. It is especially poignant for us because our adoptive parents have passed on.
We know our father, Donald Clayton Fortin, is dead, but we would love to find our Japanese mother, who we believe returned to Japan. Her name is Tokyako Kowasato (not positive on spelling as birth certificate is hard to read). If you have a spare milk carton, please help us find our mom! If you are an author, whether you’re a new author or one who has just started to promote your own writing, you have probably been spending a lot of time researching ways to work both smarter and faster. One way (albiet a tough, time consuming activity) to get potential PR inroads is doing “cold” calling (calling journalist for opportunities to promote your book and gain exposure). If you have tried this, you will quickly see the benefit of having a Press Kit.
Once created, the Press Kit is a very useful PR tool. You can make it available on your website, send it quickly and efficiently to media sources or others who may request your author or book information. Your Press Kit can also be used if you want to solicit the services of a book blogger, reviewer, retailer, librarian, or event planner. Even your editor might ask for your Press Kit. What to Include in Your Press Kit: The following includes most of the information anyone who asks for a Press Kit will need. Contact Information Your contact information includes making both you and your book(s) easily available. You should include your email address, your website, fb, Pinterest, LN, Twitter, Google+, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Library Thing, Goodreads, etc., and the URL of where your book(s) can be purchased. Include any links to book trailers, reviews, or relevant articles. Pearly Whites Invest the time and money, as soon as you are able, in a flattering photo. If you need one right away, try to pick one in which you are "doing" something interesting, or are at an interesting location or event. Biography A biography is a given. You need it for your website, for guest posts on blogs, or even for publishing submissions. If you check out some biographies on Amazon or blogs, you will notice that they are generally about 150-200 words. You should include your name, where you’re from, what you do for a living, your publication genre(s), why you became interested in that genre(s), unusual or interesting hobbies or travel. Try to add something that will make people remember you. Press Release The actual press release should focus on what’s new or upcoming. It needs to be short, to the point, and clearly state what makes you or your book stand out in the crowd. To hear how-to from the pros, visit: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-to-write-a-press-release-with-examples/ Author Q&A Make a list of interview questions and answers about you and your book. This can include questions about your background, your genre choice, your writing style or habits, works in progress, etc. You can do a Q & A as one of the main characters in the book. These Q & A’s provide easy research for interviewers and book bloggers. They can just cut and paste them if they are so inclined. Information on Your Book This is your chance to make your work stand out among the crowd. What makes your book special? It is probably related to why the genre/topic caught your own interest. Your target audience is also interested in that genre/topic. So ask yourself what specifically captures your interest. Then, describe it. Remember that the person that is reading your press kit has to be convinced your work would interest “their” readers. Sample Let your work speak for itself. To garner more interest, include a separate file with the first three chapters. You may also include things like: editorial reviews, testimonials, links to relevant media content like audio and video, any awards you’ve won, etc. Provide a PDF version of your press kit. Also, don’t forget to have a downloadable version on your website. If you found this article useful, please click on the MailChimp button on my sidebar and sign up to get future writing articles and news of my upcoming releases. No Spam, Just Great Content! Pepi Le Pew made me laugh as a child, and he still cracks me up today. I hope you enjoy this stroll down memory lane as much as I did. It made me think about how I came to know about romantic love and what it means to me, what it means to most people.
As a writer I spend more time than some therapists analyzing how people interact, what motivates them. Most all people want to find love, but what is love? Love is only a four-letter word, an idea, a concept, for all of us, until someone gives it meaning. And therein lies the secret. Love is finding that someone with whom you wish to spend all your free time. Forever. That person you want to turn to and say, "look at that!" or, "can you believe it?" You don't have to ask them to wrap their arms around you when you're sad, or when you're not. You don't wonder if they will help you out; you reach for their helping hand without turning your head, knowing their hand is already outstretched. Such a feeling of security and well being! Does it sound something like friendship? Well, true love means being friends, companions, partners, and lovers. Having someone whose eyes meet yours across a crowded room and seeing that they understand your thoughts is uniquely wonderful. So too is having someone's smile reach their eyes when they see you, even if you're just entering a room and you've been married for decades. That's what love means to this newlywed. What does it mean to you? |
