Now that her children have flown from the nest and remain in the frozen North (AKA MI & CO) Elizabeth has retired from her "normal" day jobs and lives with her personal editor, Tashi (AKA Lhasa Apso), and her husband, Kenton (AKA Irish-Scotsman), at the foot of the beautiful Santa Catalina Mountain Range in Oro Valley, AZ.
She loves to entertain friends and family from colder climates, or hike the mountain trails, jog, or ride her bike on the miles of walk/bike paths, sit on her patio watching the local wildlife visit her pond, sipping coffee and reading, writing, editing, or brainstorming plots and enjoying the grandeur of her breathtaking mountain views.
Her love of mythology and ancient literature and history were the backbone for her series, and the Sigma Force series by James Rollins inspired the fast-paced adventures (He recently told her at a literacy fundraiser that he found that flattering, as no one had ever told him he was inspiring before!). The result is an action-packed URBAN FANTASY novel series, with its basis in timeless romance, truth, superstitions, mythology and conspiracy theories.
A friend compared Elizabeth's series to what it would be like if Ford and Jolie stepped through the Stargate using the Da Vinci code as a compass, tried to kill each other, and ended up colliding with a love as seemingly hopeless as Romeo and Juliet. Elizabeth claims she pictured a blond hero with a body like "The Rock" when she was writing book I, but that Jolie, with lavender eyes, would fit her first heroine just fine. It was difficult for her to claim a genre (pigeon hole) for this work. There is a passionate love relationship, but it's also about the family relationships, dysfunctional and otherwise, and the timeless struggle for power. There are very strong female leads in this story, and the men are macho enough to hold their own and the women they love.
In the above picture, Elizabeth was in New Orleans on a tram with author friends Nancy Gideon and Laurie C. Kuna, doing research for book 2 in the series, which has scenes in New Orleans. Travel, exploring and research have always been her idea of a good time!

In this recent photo Elizabeth (pictured here with Hudson--now promoted to Social Media VP), has lived five years in Arizona's Sonoran desert. [This also explains why her highlights have been bleached out by the sun so she's totally blond, as opposed to being a brunette with blond highlights. Yes, that's her story and she's sticking to it! She's a storyteller!]
Though she misses running the forest trails amidst the fall leaves and crisp morning chill with the promise of excellent wine tasting excursions along Traverse Bay back in Michigan, where she left most of her family and many of her roots, Elizabeth moved here for a love of the mountains, the desert, the sunshine and the "Tucson-casual" lifestyle, and feels she has 'gone native' in her beautiful, green Arizona desert, surrounded by her beloved Santa Catalinas.
Someone asked her the other day if she was a "desert rat" which she discovered is a compliment--especially in a place so postcard beautiful a majority of the people "retire" rather than just move here. It means someone who grew up here, or who is native to the desert. Elizabeth says they probably just sensed the cosmic hippie in her--she was, after all, at her art therapy class (taking a painting class at an art gallery).
