![]() Do you ever have a difficult time deciding what project to begin? For a writer, it can be the cause of the blank screen cursor curse. Sometimes I have so many projects going I start working on one, just to keep thinking about another. My New Year's resolution is to write the story that wants to be written the most. That's not as easy as it sounds. As an ADHD personality, for the sake of time management and sane functionality, I have had to learn to pretend to be a linear thinker so that I can organize and format a focused process for both beginning and finishing a project (aka story). I always have more than one story idea swirling in my head. Not all writer's block is caused by no ideas. Often the blank page is a result of too much to write and not enough time in a lifetime to get it all written. The linear process I have adopted for this problem is to ask myself a series of questions: 1) which idea most appeals to me, with no not-quite-ready mental lag, 2) which idea would most appeal to the market (face it, it HAS to be sellable unless you're just writing for your grandma), and 3) perhaps this is due to the retired educator in me, but I like to constantly push my learning curve, so I don't want to write same ole safe slop, I want to write the story that will help me grow and learn as a writer. An idea that shouts yes to the lot is the story that quickly begins to fill that blank page. Having made the decision, the blank pages become fresh opportunity and the blink cursor is moving so fast, I don't even notice it. To all you undecided writers out there, make a decision and embrace it! Happy New Year! To read and/or write more words from writers, click on the following icon and linky link!
