Continuing with my current WIP, The Tree of Life, we are in the secret underground headquarters of Osiris, an undiscovered pyramic in Egypt.... “I gathered as much. You will enlighten me, surely, my love.” “He was in my thoughts,” Isis said. “A first born then,” Osiris responded gesturing toward a cup of spiced tea a kneeling servant offered. “The shapeshifters have psychic ways, and there is some rumor that the purest blood line may still possess some magic too. We have known this for centuries.” When Isis extended her hand, he lifted the cup and handed it to her. The servant, head bowed, backed from their presence. Isis drank. When she lowered the glass, she looked into her husband’s eyes and said, “I commanded him to stay.” I hope you have enjoyed Elizabeth's snippet this week. I've been sharing from my current WIP The Tree of Life. When we left off, Rio, in Shapeshifter form, had managed to escape from one of the Vargas clan.We will be opening on a new chapter and in a new setting-- Egypt, in a hidden pyramid, headquarters of Osiris... “One of yours was there, in the jungles of Brazil.” “One of mine, my queen?” Osiris pushed back his chair and rose from the matching carved and gilded desk at which he had been working. His gaze, as he cornered the desk, swept his wife’s shapely form with a familiar appreciation that separations and millennia had never dulled. “A bit more specific perhaps?” he coaxed and swooped in to capture her mouth and take advantage of the parted lips attempting to comply with his previous request. Behind them, Andrew cleared his throat. Seeing that his father had every intention of ignoring him, he rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulder against the door jamb to wait. Luc walked over to a small table and filled a glass with lightly spiced, heavily chilled tea. He held it up, gesturing toward the dispenser. Kirin shook her head, declining his offer, and continued across the room to sit cross-legged on the wide, plush couch tossed liberally with overstuffed pillows. I hope you enjoyed this week's snippet as much as I enjoyed posting it for Elizabeth. I've been sharing from my WIP, The Tree of Life. Rio, in shapeshifter form, has been spying on the Vargas clan. A VIP has just arrived, and he is busy observing the frantic activity surrounding that arrival, when... Who are you? His attention flew back to her face. She was staring straight at him, and she saw him. She was inside his head, with him. Don’t let her know your name, he schooled himself. She was there with him. With the other him. Rio lifted his paw to flee. Don’t go. It wasn't a request. I hope you enjoyed this week's snippet. I've been sharing from my current work in progress, Book 2 of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life. We just discovered that Rio, the hero is a Black Jaguar shapeshifter. He is in cat form and trying to discover who the intruders are in his jungle and what they are up to... ::Caution:: Some creative punctuation may follow to meet the requirements of the blog rules.
As soon as the men were far enough away, the cat jumped and raced after the vehicle. Sleek and sure-footed, able to move quickly through terrain where the truck must creep cautiously, it didn’t take long to find them; but once he did, he was surprised to discover their destination because he’d been to the ancient ruins many times in the past and it seemed an unlikely place to set up a base camp.
He would have liked to get closer, but care was needed if he was going to remain undetected and gather information. Rio jumped into a tree about fifty yards from the entrance he knew led nowhere but a collapsed wall overgrown with vines and waited to discover what further secrets would be revealed. The truck parked and as he had suspected the area was quickly flooded with lights. Distracted by the activity of the men unloading, he didn’t at first notice Kirin because he scented her companion first. Ears back, nostrils flared, hairs bristling, his throat constricted, and only with a supreme effort did Rio manage to keep his other self from growling at the leopard brushing with casual affection against Kirin’s leg as she emerged from the darkness of the ruin. Then the smaller cat, having sensed Rio’s presence and with no need for concealment snapped its head in his direction and growled a warning. “Easy, Raja,” Kirin said softly, bending to scratch the pet behind his ear, but she too looked in Rio’s direction as Roscoe stepped from the ruin and Rio’s nails dug deeply into the tree bark while he remembered the man’s remark regarding the tracking device and Rio becoming a pet. He looked at the leopard again, and was relieved to see that Kirin at least had the decency not to adorn it with a humiliating jeweled collar or bowed Velcro shirt. She turned to speak to Roscoe as the men approached with the gurney. The cat moved forward and sat, staring at him, clearly placing itself as sentry between his mistress and the perceived threat, Rio.

I have been sharing snippets from my current WIP, Book 2 of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life. When we left off last week, Isis had just ordered her sons to hold the tribeswoman Kirin has been treating still. The young woman is strapped to a gurney, in a zombie-like state, unaware of her surroundings, violently convulsing and pulling against her restraints. Isis moved forward and placed her hands above the tribe woman’s chest. Her hands were surrounded by a soft bluish glow and hovered just above the quaking form, projecting energy, like a light source, into the woman’s body as they moved upward to the woman’s face where Isis placed her palms against the woman’s temples. The woman’s seizures ended and as she stilled, her eyes closed as if in slumber. The light surrounding Isis’ hands intensified, and she chanted softly, “I, Isis, Mother of Nations, whose very incantation is life, beseech thee, The Ancients, Those Who Came Before, lend me your power, your wisdom, your magic, that I may see, that I may know, that I may heal.” The light now enveloped the tribewoman’s entire body, glowing first blue, then pink and then Andrew and Luc closed their eyes and turned their heads aside as the light became so intense only Isis was able to endure the bright yellow and flaming orange glow of Ra’s glory. Slowly the light softened and dimmed, returned to iridescent blue that flowed back into Isis’ hands. The young woman’s chest rose and fell slowly. Her eyelids quivered, and opened, revealing clear, brown eyes, confused and mildly frightened, but not vacant or hysterical. Isis looked up at her sons and said, “I have discovered the source of their illness and know how to extract a cure. We must find The Eye of Horus. Go make preparations to go home to Egypt.” I hope you enjoyed this week's snippet. Please visit the other fine Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday Authors!
When we left off in my WIP, Book 2 of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life, Kirin and her brothers were at The Magic Ball in Rio and their enemy had just discovered they were there because the scientist they kidnapped, drugged and took to the ball with them is wearing a tracking device...so instead of rushing up the elevator to their penthouse suites they're headed to the ballroom to get lost in the crush... He stayed close behind as she wove her way through the throng of bystanders and then darted straight onto the dance floor, swinging around to clasp him against herself, and then spin away to the flash-paced rhythm of a Brazilian Samba. “I’ll explain later. I’m sorry, but if you want to get out of here alive, follow my lead,” she said into his ear as she gyrated in front of him. “Shouldn’t I be leading?” he quipped, surprising Kirin by raising her hand above her head and spinning her away, then quickly pulling her back against him and showing off some amazingly sensual moves for a man who spent much of his life in front of a microscope. The scientist pulled her up against his chest, nearly knocking her breath away, and not just because she was surprised by his sudden movement. The gleaming challenge in his eyes bore into hers as he looked down at her. She could imagine the mocking smile behind his mask, and she met his swiveling pelvis with her own sashaying hips, daring him to continue the knee-pumping, core-flexing duel. Encouraged, he stalked her movements like a predator, the fluidity of his movements measured and seductive. Kirin, breathless and impressed, laughed up at her handsome captive.
