Continuing from my last WIP post, I will be adding a snippet that introduces an important new character to my Shadow Walkers story, Father Benjamin. She hadn’t let the child out of her sight since they recovered her, and had repeatedly thanked Sabina for helping her get her baby back. That seemed understandable to Sabina. What Tessa hadn’t done was ask about the jinn, and Sabina found that to be as odd as the fact that Lydia was now grabbing handfuls of cereal from the bowl and jamming them into her mouth until her checks resembled a chipmunk. A knock sounded as Tessa grabbed Lydia’s hand with alarm and said, “Lydia, stop that this minute!” Sabina hurried from the small sitting room, wondering as she walked toward the hallway doors what lasting trauma her godchild faced. The left door suddenly opened, allowing a hooded Jesuit to step into the suite’s antechamber. Ignoring her outstretched hand, he rushed past her toward the sound of shattering glass behind her, which was followed by Tessa’s shocked cry of, “Lydia! What are you doing?” I was about to find a paddle for all the rain in my backyard right now, but here's no sense getting my beautiful hair all wet and messy. Instead of going outside, I posted Elizabeth's short story snippet. I hope you enjoyed it. Be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday authors for more great snippets!

I am going to continue with that same story this week. The petite redhead fairly exploded into the room amidst a swirl of canary chiffon and whiffs of soft floral, the cheery adornment in stark contrast to the ravaged look on her upturned oval face. Dark mascara ran down a ghostly palette where streaks had been smudged across high, sun-freckled cheekbones by repeated attempts, like the one she performed now, to still the rivulets of tears. “Oh, Sabina. Thank the goddess you are home,” Tessa declared, throwing herself into Sabina’s waiting arms and sobbing brokenly. “Shhh. What has you so hysterical, Tess?” Sabina asked, trying to sound calm above the shuddering mass of soft copper curls pressed against her shoulder, though her friend’s unusual behavior terrified her, making her dread the answer to her own question. Why didn’t I call her earlier when I felt that all wasn’t right with her? She stiffened as her earlier premonition manifested itself into a sudden vision of Lydia, her six-year-old goddaughter and Tessa’s only child, crouched in a dark room. No, not a room, underground, a cavern of some kind. Hudson here! Thank goodness for air conditioning. I don't know how outside doggies stand it. It was 107 degrees and just taking care of business was too long to be out in this heat. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. I've had out of state visitors, was on vacation, tended to house repairs and maintenance and have been rushing to do lots of catching up. I'm hoping to be back in the swing of it now, and appreciate all who drop by. I have been writing and I'm currently working on a short horror story. I wrote 2 different beginnings, so will post one here and hope for some feedback. . . . So here's a beginning to Shadow Walkers Bang. Sabina jumped and glanced toward the door. Bang. Bang. Bang. Louder and more urgent with each reverberation of the heavy outer door. The hammering continued. Ding-Ding, Ding-Dong, began the Westminster Chimes that now accompanied the discordant fist-pounding.
