I'm sharing from my WIP again, Book II of my Illuminati Series, The Tree of Life. The Vargas family has sent Luc and Kirin to meet with the "Shapeshifter" faction, in Sedona AZ, their stronghold. Rio's sister, Seraphina, knows of it before he does, because he has just arrived in Sedona.
“You’ve had a vision. Tell me.” He knew what she was going to say and he dreaded it. His coming here may have been a mistake. Should he leave? Was he putting them all in danger, or was it necessary for him to stay and help protect them? The bitch would probably find them wherever they tried to hide. Better that they were on their home turf.
“It’s Isis. She’s found us, and they’re coming.” “Isis?” “No, no I think she has sent some of her children to find you, Rio. How does she know about you?” “This is all my fault,” Rio confessed.
I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth. Sorry it's late, but she has me running around organizing boxes of books and other goodies for something called the Tucson Festival of Books. She thinks 130,000 plus people go there for books, but I heard they have a lot of good food there, so I know why they're really there! I won't tell her though, since it would probably hurt her feelings.

We'll go on from there... “Rio,” she said, rushing headlong into his arms to be swung around and then hugged close. “Seraphina, I’ve missed you,” he said, stepping back to take a look at her. Golden eyes, much like his own, glistened with excitement at their reunion and accentuated her sun-kissed skin. Her hair, darker than his, hung to her waist and held a mahogany sheen his keen eyes picked up even in the faint light provided by the open elevator door. “Stunning as ever. Am I in time to beat down any aggressive curs?” “Ever the big brother,” she countered, laughing. “Thank the stars you are home at last.” Her look sobered and she grew serious. “Trouble is coming, Rio. We are in terrible danger.” I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. I like the twisty trees in Sedona. They make me want to chase them, but I am too busy looking in the mirror right now. I went to the groomer today and if I do say so myself, I look very handsome. Elizabeth thinks it's a little short and asked me if I had joined the military. I posted her book trailer below. Stolen Secrets is now available on preorder (whatever that is)! As Kirin tries to convince her mother there's no reason to suspect she knows anything at all about Rio, Rio is headed home to rejoin his family and, he hopes, keep them safe from Queen Isis. Rising like buoyant survivors, the water-soothed sandstone glowed beneath the hardened lava caps that threatened to topple the determined escarpments. Ageless despite their hidden frailty, the bold celebration of sunset masked a secret mystery within the Sedona landscape. The breathtaking beauty never failed to hold Rio’s attention for one last, lingering gaze before he padded over to the narrow crevice behind the thorny shrub. He slipped between the rocks and headed into the main corridor. His eyes dilated as he moved deeper into the rock structure. He could feel its pull, had felt it when he got within a mile of the valley. But here, so close to the source, his every nerve tingled. Focusing, he transformed and walked upright. Alert on a metaphysical level, he knew the moment she stepped from the elevator at the heart of the mound. He smiled in anticipation. I hope you like the snippet I shared for Elizabeth this week. We left off at Kirin trying to get her parents to let her accompany her brother Luc to America to find Rio, He managed to get away from them once, in Rio, and then in the rainforests of Brazil he shapeshifted and escaped from her mother. They have found out that he is in Sedona, and Isis wants him captured and sent to the underworld. Kirin has other plans, but doesn't want her mother to know or interfere. Rio thought of his gift as a curse, a curse that her ancestors had caused. He couldn’t know that of course. Could he? “It’s settled then,” her father was saying. “Muhktar’s a great operative,” Luc said. “He just helped return Ornias to where he belonged.” “This scientist is hardly evil, and certainly not a Jinn,” Kirin snapped, before she could stop herself. “And you know this how?” Sekhmet asked, her attention riveted to Kirin’s face and her eyebrows lifted in curious expectation. Kirin clamped her jaws together. She could feel her mother’s stare boring into her, knowing with certainty without even probing her thoughts that Kirin knew more than she would admit. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. She has been sick all week and had something called hives because she took some medicine she was allergic to. She scratched more than a doggie without flea medicine, but when I tried to lick the little bumps and make them better she stopped me. They finally went away by themselves, not if only her cold would go away too. She's not nearly as much fun as usual! ;( Please visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors and #snippetsunday authors for more great reads!

Since Stolen Secrets, my Illuminati Fantasy Romance Spin-Off novel is in final edits and will be released soon, I am going to share some more from my second book in the Illuminati Series which will be coming out next: The Tree of Life. The royal immortals are gathered and discussing who will be going to Sedona, AZ, after Rio, the Black Jaguar shapeshifter whose family genetic "defects" are the responsibility of the ancients, the ancestors of the royal immortal family, the Illuminati founders. “I know who Mukhtar is, I was just wondering why you felt the need to send him with us to America when he's to be married soon, and--” “Yes, and we are all invited and wouldn’t think of missing the wedding,” Osiris said. “The wedding is still two months away. His going with you will keep him out of the way while the bride plans the wedding,” Isis insisted. Dammit, Kirin thought. Her mother was determined to control Rio’s capture. He wasn’t just some monster, a genetic defect as Sekhmet claimed. She was sure of it. No way was she letting them imprison him in the underworld with the true beasts and monsters. He was an intelligent human, a brilliant scientist who just happened to have a rare gift. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I sure did. I got a new toy and lots of doggie treats and had so much fun playing with my family. The snippet I posted for Elizabeth today is from her Work in Progress. I've been sharing from my WIP, The Tree of Life, where Kirin is trying to prevent her mother from discovering her interest in Rio, the Shapeshifter who managed to give her mother, Isis, the slip while in the rainforest in Brazil. Sehkmet has just entered the royal family discussion and announced that Luc can sense Rio's presence because they share the same DNA strand...
"They’ve grown too powerful. I heard about what happened. He defied Isis? They’re dangerous. Let me take care of this problem now.”
Osiris held up his hand to still Sekhmet’s tirade. “It seems Kirin and Luc are going to undertake this mission. They will take Mukhtar with them.” “Prince Mukhtar?” Kirin asked. “The Bedouin,” Isis responded thoughtfully. “Yes, a perfect choice. Mukhtar, son of Sheikh Abdul Kummel al-Rahman, leader of the Hassana, one of our most faithful allies. Keep your secrets for now, Kirin. You'll not have them for long."

Now that my story anthology has released and is doing VERY well, (exciting!), I am back to sharing from my WIP, Book II of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life. When we left off, the Royal family had just returned to Egypt where Isis, somewhat angry, was informing her husband, Osiris, that one of "his mistakes" was loose in the wilds of the rainforest and had dared to attack her. The entire clan quite naturally expressed varying degrees of shock and disbelief at this annoucement, though it was a given that the creature must be brought under their control.
We are in Kirin's point of view as she is the heroine of this novel, and the "mistake" as we will discover soon enough is to be the hero, Rio. Kirin has already encountered Rio, but had hoped to keep that encounter from her mother.
“Rio? You know that cat’s name? Andrew!” Isis said, turning toward her son who was tearing a large hunk of bread off with his teeth. “You will take some of your men and fetch this beast.” "Mother, wait. I think Luc and I should go, if it’s the geneticist who had the ingredient for my formula. You said yourself he has knowledge we need.”
“She speaks wisely,” said Osiris. “And with duplicity. You have not yet revealed how you know this man is the shapeshifter or how you came by your knowledge of him,” Isis insisted.

Visit the other participants on the list and read, critique and comment on their 8sunday posts I've been sharing from my current WIP The Tree of Life and as a reward I have a you're seeing it here first reward! What do you think of my first view of the cover?! Are Kirin and Rio metaphysical god-like material? I hope so! Rio's A Hero With A Thousand Faces and then some! In the meantime...enjoy Kirin's POV of mommy dearest's impression of her soon to be love interest...poor Rio didn't make a very good first impression. “What he said is not the issue. Sekhmet was going to hunt them down eons ago. They’d already be where they belong in the underworld like the rest of the experimental abominations the ancients created, but no, you said to let them go because they were successes not mistakes. Metaphysical god-like hybrids, worthy of life, you called them.” Osiris reached toward her and Isis threw her hands up and turned away from his attempt to offer an apology. She swept across the room, pacing past pillar after pillar. Her temper escalated if the small statue that flew off the stand she walked by was any indication. Kirin let her breath out and set her plate on the table, all thought of familiar sweets forgotten. Never, in all her life, had she ever imagined that another being would have the bravery, let alone the power to stand against her mother single-handedly. Even her brothers sought the conspiratorial aid of siblings against her legendary wrath whenever possible. I hope you enjoyed this week's snippet that I posted for Elizabeth. I've been sharing from my current WIP, The Tree of Life. Isis is telling her husband, Osiris, about the jaguar shapeshifter, Rio, she saw in the Jungles of Brazil, someone who as she explained to Osiris..."I commanded him to stay." “I’m surprised you didn’t bring him back with you then.” “What? Why did we have to give chase?” Luc demanded. “How did he get away?” Andrew asked through a mouth full of bread, stepping to his mother's side. “How could he leave if you commanded him?” Kirin asked simultaneously, amidst the chaos of confusion Isis’ statement had created. “I believe his exact words were, you don’t own me, witch,” Isis said, her voice rising as the thought of it brought color to her cheeks and irritation back to her attitude. “What in Hades did that little upstart pussy say?” roared Osiris, fists clenched, the smile lines around his mouth now pushed down by the downward force of heavy creases between his eyebrows. Kirin gasped. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth this week. Continuing with my current WIP, The Tree of Life, we are in the secret underground headquarters of Osiris, an undiscovered pyramic in Egypt.... “I gathered as much. You will enlighten me, surely, my love.” “He was in my thoughts,” Isis said. “A first born then,” Osiris responded gesturing toward a cup of spiced tea a kneeling servant offered. “The shapeshifters have psychic ways, and there is some rumor that the purest blood line may still possess some magic too. We have known this for centuries.” When Isis extended her hand, he lifted the cup and handed it to her. The servant, head bowed, backed from their presence. Isis drank. When she lowered the glass, she looked into her husband’s eyes and said, “I commanded him to stay.” I hope you have enjoyed Elizabeth's snippet this week.
