Jumping ahead a little, I am still sharing from my short horror story, Shadow Walkers. Sabina, Tessa and Lydia are escaping the catacombs, and the vile monsters (aka jinn) who held Lydia captive.

The floor within the narrow hallway had neatly paved travertine floors and brick walls. Their escort didn’t pause to speak to the men who had obviously been waiting should he need assistance, but instead led them through a labyrinth of hallways, twice requiring them to go through locked doors and once up a flight of stairs. They had gone from rough stone to marble and now they were in a polished black and white marble-tiled hallway with a plush red and gold-bordered carpet runner that muffled the sound of their footsteps, the only noise the group had made since first entering the mysterious bowels of the Vatican.

He paused before a red door and when he pulled it open, Sabina was shocked to see an elevator. The group entered and rode upward, still silent, and still tense. When the cables stilled, they stepped out and followed the priest across the hall. This time when he opened a set of double doors, he stepped aside and said, “Please feel free to get cleaned up. I will have some refreshments and fresh clothing sent up at once. Father Benjamin will be with you as soon as we can get word to him. In the meantime, you are safe here.”

​Before Sabina could reply, he spun on his heels and was on his way back to the elevator, a cell phone to his ear.

Last week I shared from my short horror story, Shadow Walkers.  Someone was pounding on Sabina's penthouse door. I am going to continue with that same story this week.

             The petite redhead fairly exploded into the room amidst a swirl of canary chiffon and whiffs of soft floral, the cheery adornment in stark contrast to the ravaged look on her upturned oval face. Dark mascara ran down a ghostly palette where streaks had been smudged across high, sun-freckled cheekbones by repeated attempts, like the one she performed now, to still the rivulets of tears. “Oh, Sabina. Thank the goddess you are home,” Tessa declared, throwing herself into Sabina’s waiting arms and sobbing brokenly.
            “Shhh. What has you so hysterical, Tess?” Sabina asked, trying to sound calm above the shuddering mass of soft copper curls pressed against her shoulder, though her friend’s unusual behavior terrified her, making her dread the answer to her own question. Why didn’t I call her earlier when I felt that all wasn’t right with her? She stiffened as her earlier premonition manifested itself into a sudden vision of Lydia, her six-year-old goddaughter and Tessa’s only child, crouched in a dark room. No, not a room, underground, a cavern of some kind.

I'm sharing from my WIP again, Book II of my Illuminati Series, The Tree of Life. The Vargas family has sent Luc and Kirin to meet with the "Shapeshifter" faction, in Sedona AZ, their stronghold. Rio's sister, Seraphina, knows of it before he does, because he has just arrived in Sedona.

            “You’ve had a vision. Tell me.” He knew what she was going to say and he dreaded it. His coming here may have been a mistake. Should he leave? Was he putting them all in danger, or was it necessary for him to stay and help protect them? The bitch would probably find them wherever they tried to hide. Better that they were on their home turf.
            “It’s Isis. She’s found us, and they’re coming.”
            “Isis?”
            “No, no I think she has sent some of her children to find you, Rio. How does she know about you?”
            “This is all my fault,” Rio confessed.

I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth. Sorry it's late, but she has me running around organizing boxes of books and other goodies for something called the Tucson Festival of Books. She thinks 130,000 plus people go there for books, but I heard they have a lot of good food there, so I know why they're really there! I won't tell her though, since it would probably hurt her feelings.

The Tree of Life, Book 2 of my Illuminati Series. As Kirin tries to convince her mother there's no reason to suspect she knows anything at all about Rio, Rio is headed home to rejoin his family and, he hopes, keep them safe from Queen Isis.

She stared at the door long after the bell stopped jingling, wondering just exactly why so many people were interested in this particular relic, and how they could have discovered so quickly that she had recently acquired the map to its whereabouts. One was perhaps a coincidence, but two in the same day meant trouble. Big trouble, and more secrets than she, in her excitement over this morning’s hefty paycheck, had bothered to investigate. What had she gotten herself into?

The door flew open and she jumped, then relaxed once she recognized her cleaning woman.  “Hello, Misha,” she said.

“Good evening, Lady Isabella,” Misha said, turning to bolt the door behind her, before crossing the shop and disappearing into the Persian rug labyrinth, seeking cleaning supplies. 

Isabella reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell phone, because she knew one thing for sure, she needed backup.
