Snippet from "Shadow Walkers"He hurried back and began wrapping the cord around Lydia’s right forearm, binding it to the chair. “Wait, what do you think you’re doing?” Tessa cried out. Sabina grabbed his sleeve and cried, “Let her go!” He jerked away and snapped, “It’s not me that’s got her!” They both stepped back in surprise as the chair suddenly levitated four feet into the air, with Lydia now out of Tessa’s reach. I hope you enjoyed the snippet from this scary story! I love Halloween, personally (who wouldn't like extra treats?), and I especially like my friend "Fang" even though Elizabeth said his howls are battery operated and there aren't any real live dogs that have only bones and no skin or fur (What she doesn't know won't hurt her, I guess). Continuing from my last WIP post, I will be adding a snippet that introduces an important new character to my Shadow Walkers story, Father Benjamin. She hadn’t let the child out of her sight since they recovered her, and had repeatedly thanked Sabina for helping her get her baby back. That seemed understandable to Sabina. What Tessa hadn’t done was ask about the jinn, and Sabina found that to be as odd as the fact that Lydia was now grabbing handfuls of cereal from the bowl and jamming them into her mouth until her checks resembled a chipmunk. A knock sounded as Tessa grabbed Lydia’s hand with alarm and said, “Lydia, stop that this minute!” Sabina hurried from the small sitting room, wondering as she walked toward the hallway doors what lasting trauma her godchild faced. The left door suddenly opened, allowing a hooded Jesuit to step into the suite’s antechamber. Ignoring her outstretched hand, he rushed past her toward the sound of shattering glass behind her, which was followed by Tessa’s shocked cry of, “Lydia! What are you doing?” I was about to find a paddle for all the rain in my backyard right now, but here's no sense getting my beautiful hair all wet and messy. Instead of going outside, I posted Elizabeth's short story snippet. I hope you enjoyed it. Be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday authors for more great snippets!

I've had out of state visitors, was on vacation, tended to house repairs and maintenance and have been rushing to do lots of catching up. I'm hoping to be back in the swing of it now, and appreciate all who drop by. I have been writing and I'm currently working on a short horror story. I wrote 2 different beginnings, so will post one here and hope for some feedback. . . . So here's a beginning to Shadow Walkers Bang. Sabina jumped and glanced toward the door. Bang. Bang. Bang. Louder and more urgent with each reverberation of the heavy outer door. The hammering continued. Ding-Ding, Ding-Dong, began the Westminster Chimes that now accompanied the discordant fist-pounding.

She reached for the talisman around his neck and said, “Luck? No, brother, not luck. You are protected by love, the most powerful shield of all.” He grinned down at her. “No one can ever take that away from us. Speaking of love, how’s father?” “Worried about you, of course.” “Let’s go. I have some explaining to do.” He wasn’t looking forward to that, either. His father was less likely to overlook his interaction with Queen Isis after he had already escaped from the Vargas clan once. Following his sister, he stepped into the elevator. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth. She said I won't be able to post next week because we'll all be too busy with the Tucson Festival of Books and house guests, which I hope means extra treats! This week I am going to share a snippet from Stolen Secrets since it's now on preorder. The trailer is up above and links are at the end, including a rafflecopter filled with goodies.
Pulling the collar of his robe up, he saw Isabella tug the edges of her own robe closer, and then she tightened the belt. Had the temperature dropped? No, not possible at this depth. Despite the added lights, the room seemed darker. The shadows cast by the assortment of statues fought against the light’s intrusion until the bulbs flickered and dimmed, and once more they began to dominate the chamber. Popping sounds were followed by the distinct crackle of shattered glass as an unseen hand snuffed out what remained of the artificial illumination.
The sepulcher was filled with subtle movement as though the darkness had been awakened to their presence and resented it. He caught movement out of the corner of his eye, but when he spun to confront the attacker—and he now felt besieged by threat—no one and nothing was there. He sensed movement overhead, and looked up. Seeing nothing again, he fished his lantern from his belt and his gun from a cargo pocket on the side of his pant leg.
I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. It's such a relief to be out of the spotlight, like I was in her last post. Don't forget to sign up for all the goodies in her rafflecopter below and snap up a copy of Stolen Secrets! Visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday Authors for more great reads!

We'll go on from there... “Rio,” she said, rushing headlong into his arms to be swung around and then hugged close. “Seraphina, I’ve missed you,” he said, stepping back to take a look at her. Golden eyes, much like his own, glistened with excitement at their reunion and accentuated her sun-kissed skin. Her hair, darker than his, hung to her waist and held a mahogany sheen his keen eyes picked up even in the faint light provided by the open elevator door. “Stunning as ever. Am I in time to beat down any aggressive curs?” “Ever the big brother,” she countered, laughing. “Thank the stars you are home at last.” Her look sobered and she grew serious. “Trouble is coming, Rio. We are in terrible danger.” I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. I like the twisty trees in Sedona. They make me want to chase them, but I am too busy looking in the mirror right now. I went to the groomer today and if I do say so myself, I look very handsome. Elizabeth thinks it's a little short and asked me if I had joined the military. I posted her book trailer below. Stolen Secrets is now available on preorder (whatever that is)! The heroine, Lady Isabella Valentine, has been hired to retrieve the same artifact from an anonymous benefactor, who has sent a helper, David Khoury, to assist her on the archaeological dig. Prince Mukhtar wishes to change her mind. This current scene is from just after the prince has left her shop. She stared at the door long after the bell stopped jingling, wondering just exactly why so many people were interested in this particular relic, and how they could have discovered so quickly that she had recently acquired the map to its whereabouts. One was perhaps a coincidence, but two in the same day meant trouble. Big trouble, and more secrets than she, in her excitement over this morning’s hefty paycheck, had bothered to investigate. What had she gotten herself into? The door flew open and she jumped, then relaxed once she recognized her cleaning woman. “Hello, Misha,” she said. “Good evening, Lady Isabella,” Misha said, turning to bolt the door behind her, before crossing the shop and disappearing into the Persian rug labyrinth, seeking cleaning supplies. Isabella reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell phone, because she knew one thing for sure, she needed backup. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. I was a little late since I overslept. It's not my fault though. I had to wait up for Elizabeth who was at the 4th Avenue Tucson Street Fair, whatever that is. All I know is it's a terrible thing because it made my dinner late. If over 600,000 people attend it in one weekend, there must be a lot of hungry doggies! It's NaNoWriMo, and my very first time participating in it, so of course you will be getting excerpts from my WIP, a novella, Stolen Secrets! If you have been following Book II of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life, you will know that I just introduced a minor character, Prince Mukhtar, who appears in both Book I, The Book of Life, and Book 11, of the Illuminati Series. He is also the hero of a Romance Fantasy Novella I am writing for NaNoWriMo, a little spinoff adventure! In it, Isis has sent him to retrieve a chalice to be used in a ceremony that will break the spell the jinni, Ornias (from my short horror story) has cast upon the Ring of Solomon, before their mortal enemy, Set, can get his hands on it. The heroine, Lady Isabella Valentine, has been hired to retrieve the same artifact from an anonymous benefactor, who has sent a helper, David Khoury, to assist her on the archaeological dig. Prince Mukhtar wishes to change hr mind. Here’s a bit from where I left off last week . . . (*Note: It's NaNo, so may be a bit rough in spots.) She took the drawing, happy to distract herself from the intensity of his stare, the penetrating azure gaze that both took her breath away and made her want to gasp in gulps of air to fuel the manic beating of her heart at his nearness. Then, recognition made her take in a slow, deep breath, as she willed herself to remain outwardly calm. She looked up and said, “May I ask why you are seeking this?” “So you are familiar with the piece,” he said as fact and not a question, and the small smile he bestowed upon her matched the warmth in his voice as if she had just passed some test at which he had hoped she would excel. “Yes, of course. Most in my field would recognize The Chalice of Isis. But you didn’t answer my question,” she persisted. “I have a buyer with bottomless pockets, of course. And do you know where it is located?” he asked, small dimples appearing in his cheeks. “I’m afraid I can’t help you,” Isabella said, handing him back the sketch. I hope you liked the snippet I posted for Elizabeth this week while she's busy with NaNo! She gave me popcorn, so she can do whatever she wants as far as I'm concerned. I love popcorn! Here’s a bit from where I left off last week . . . (*Note: It's NaNo, so may be a bit rough in spots.) “W-what?” She glanced toward the door and noted two more Bedouins, standing sentry on either side of the entryway. More, she knew, would be outside, no doubt tending to the beautiful black stallion of Prince Mukhtar, eldest son and heir of Sheikh Abdul Kummel al-Rahman, Leader of the Hassana. The gold agal of his kuffiyah might as well have been a crown, but the entourage he traveled with assured his identity could not be mistaken. “Forgive me, Lady Valentine,” he replied, this time in flawless English. “Allow me to introduce myself.” She held up her hand, and said, “No need for that, Prince Mukhtar. Everyone in Cairo knows who you are. But please do explain what you are talking about.” He bowed his head politely, and took a step closer. Looking down at her, he said softly, “Of course, My Lady, with pleasure; I wish to procure your services as an archaeologist. I seek this,” he said, pulling a drawing from somewhere within his robe and extending it toward her. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth this week as she is crazy busy with something called NaNo. It isn't something you can eat. I've been sharing from my WIP, The Tree of Life, where Kirin is trying to prevent her mother from discovering her interest in Rio, the Shapeshifter who managed to give her mother, Isis, the slip while in the rainforest in Brazil. Sehkmet has just entered the royal family discussion and announced that Luc can sense Rio's presence because they share the same DNA strand...
"They’ve grown too powerful. I heard about what happened. He defied Isis? They’re dangerous. Let me take care of this problem now.”
Osiris held up his hand to still Sekhmet’s tirade. “It seems Kirin and Luc are going to undertake this mission. They will take Mukhtar with them.” “Prince Mukhtar?” Kirin asked. “The Bedouin,” Isis responded thoughtfully. “Yes, a perfect choice. Mukhtar, son of Sheikh Abdul Kummel al-Rahman, leader of the Hassana, one of our most faithful allies. Keep your secrets for now, Kirin. You'll not have them for long."
