Continuing from my last WIP post, I will be adding a snippet that introduces an important new character to my Shadow Walkers story, Father Benjamin. She hadn’t let the child out of her sight since they recovered her, and had repeatedly thanked Sabina for helping her get her baby back. That seemed understandable to Sabina. What Tessa hadn’t done was ask about the jinn, and Sabina found that to be as odd as the fact that Lydia was now grabbing handfuls of cereal from the bowl and jamming them into her mouth until her checks resembled a chipmunk. A knock sounded as Tessa grabbed Lydia’s hand with alarm and said, “Lydia, stop that this minute!” Sabina hurried from the small sitting room, wondering as she walked toward the hallway doors what lasting trauma her godchild faced. The left door suddenly opened, allowing a hooded Jesuit to step into the suite’s antechamber. Ignoring her outstretched hand, he rushed past her toward the sound of shattering glass behind her, which was followed by Tessa’s shocked cry of, “Lydia! What are you doing?” I was about to find a paddle for all the rain in my backyard right now, but here's no sense getting my beautiful hair all wet and messy. Instead of going outside, I posted Elizabeth's short story snippet. I hope you enjoyed it. Be sure to visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday authors for more great snippets!

It's NaNoWriMo, and my very first time participating in it, so of course you will be getting excerpts from my WIP, a novella, Stolen Secrets! If you have been following Book II of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life, you will know that I just introduced a minor character, Prince Mukhtar, who appears in both Book I, The Book of Life, and Book 11, of the Illuminati Series. He is also the hero of a Romance Fantasy Novella I am writing for NaNoWriMo, a little spinoff adventure! In it, Isis has sent him to retrieve a chalice to be used in a ceremony that will break the spell the jinni, Ornias (from my short horror story) has cast upon the Ring of Solomon, before their mortal enemy, Set, can get his hands on it. The heroine, Lady Isabella Valentine, has been hired to retrieve the same artifact from an anonymous benefactor, who has sent a helper, David Khoury, to assist her on the archaeological dig. Here’s a bit from where I left off last week . . . (*Note: It's NaNo, so may be a bit rough in spots.) “W-what?” She glanced toward the door and noted two more Bedouins, standing sentry on either side of the entryway. More, she knew, would be outside, no doubt tending to the beautiful black stallion of Prince Mukhtar, eldest son and heir of Sheikh Abdul Kummel al-Rahman, Leader of the Hassana. The gold agal of his kuffiyah might as well have been a crown, but the entourage he traveled with assured his identity could not be mistaken. “Forgive me, Lady Valentine,” he replied, this time in flawless English. “Allow me to introduce myself.” She held up her hand, and said, “No need for that, Prince Mukhtar. Everyone in Cairo knows who you are. But please do explain what you are talking about.” He bowed his head politely, and took a step closer. Looking down at her, he said softly, “Of course, My Lady, with pleasure; I wish to procure your services as an archaeologist. I seek this,” he said, pulling a drawing from somewhere within his robe and extending it toward her. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth this week as she is crazy busy with something called NaNo. It isn't something you can eat. I figured that much out, as I had to remind her twice that it was time for my snack! Harumph! I've been sharing from my WIP, The Tree of Life, where Kirin is trying to prevent her mother from discovering her interest in Rio, the Shapeshifter who managed to give her mother, Isis, the slip while in the rainforest in Brazil. Sehkmet has just entered the royal family discussion and announced that Luc can sense Rio's presence because they share the same DNA strand...
"They’ve grown too powerful. I heard about what happened. He defied Isis? They’re dangerous. Let me take care of this problem now.”
Osiris held up his hand to still Sekhmet’s tirade. “It seems Kirin and Luc are going to undertake this mission. They will take Mukhtar with them.” “Prince Mukhtar?” Kirin asked. “The Bedouin,” Isis responded thoughtfully. “Yes, a perfect choice. Mukhtar, son of Sheikh Abdul Kummel al-Rahman, leader of the Hassana, one of our most faithful allies. Keep your secrets for now, Kirin. You'll not have them for long."

Now that my story anthology has released and is doing VERY well, (exciting!), I am back to sharing from my WIP, Book II of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life. When we left off, the Royal family had just returned to Egypt where Isis, somewhat angry, was informing her husband, Osiris, that one of "his mistakes" was loose in the wilds of the rainforest and had dared to attack her. The entire clan quite naturally expressed varying degrees of shock and disbelief at this annoucement, though it was a given that the creature must be brought under their control.
We are in Kirin's point of view as she is the heroine of this novel, and the "mistake" as we will discover soon enough is to be the hero, Rio. Kirin has already encountered Rio, but had hoped to keep that encounter from her mother.
“Rio? You know that cat’s name? Andrew!” Isis said, turning toward her son who was tearing a large hunk of bread off with his teeth. “You will take some of your men and fetch this beast.” "Mother, wait. I think Luc and I should go, if it’s the geneticist who had the ingredient for my formula. You said yourself he has knowledge we need.”
“She speaks wisely,” said Osiris. “And with duplicity. You have not yet revealed how you know this man is the shapeshifter or how you came by your knowledge of him,” Isis insisted.

I've been sharing from The Tree of Life, but I am excited to announce that they have finally released the cover to the Tell-Tale Publishing Horror Anthology for 2016 and I have a horror story in it, which incorporates the legend of King Solomon and the Jinn. The title is The Opal Ring, and it is set in Egypt (act shocked). Since this anthology is supposed to be available for preorder next month, I thought I would begin sharing some snippets. It will be on sale begining in October, launched during Tell-Tale Publishing's annual online horror party. [They will again have a short horror story contest, so tell all your peeps who like to write short stories in that genre to get ready to enter! Last year's winner The Keeper's Secret, won the cover and is also featured in the anthology. ] ![]() After finding her mother’s Book of Shadows hidden in a secret compartment of the costume trunk, Jasmine learned to enhance her father’s magic with her own, just as her mother had done. Her father was a fine magician, but with the aid of true magic, he performed feats that slight-of-hand entertainers could only mimic. She thought her power strong enough, but clearly she was wrong. To secure Vegas and escape her uncle, she must take no more chances. “What has you so distracted, little mouse?” Jasmine froze. She refused to look up past the gleaming brown alligator loafers blocking her way in the narrow service hallway. What was her uncle doing here? She took this hall to avoid him. Why hadn’t she smelled that cloying musk he always wore? She stood in the shower for an hour to rid herself of its memory whenever he touched her. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I uploaded for Elizabeth this week. We were so busy last week (did you even know they had a national dog day??!!) we weren't able to share anything, and I was so disappointed. I have been a very good boy this week and helped Elizabeth a lot so that we could get this snippet shared! Visit the other participants on the list and read, critique and comment on their 8sunday posts I've been sharing from my current WIP The Tree of Life and as a reward I have a you're seeing it here first reward! What do you think of my first view of the cover?! Are Kirin and Rio metaphysical god-like material? I hope so! Rio's A Hero With A Thousand Faces and then some! In the meantime...enjoy Kirin's POV of mommy dearest's impression of her soon to be love interest...poor Rio didn't make a very good first impression. “What he said is not the issue. Sekhmet was going to hunt them down eons ago. They’d already be where they belong in the underworld like the rest of the experimental abominations the ancients created, but no, you said to let them go because they were successes not mistakes. Metaphysical god-like hybrids, worthy of life, you called them.” Osiris reached toward her and Isis threw her hands up and turned away from his attempt to offer an apology. She swept across the room, pacing past pillar after pillar. Her temper escalated if the small statue that flew off the stand she walked by was any indication. Kirin let her breath out and set her plate on the table, all thought of familiar sweets forgotten. Never, in all her life, had she ever imagined that another being would have the bravery, let alone the power to stand against her mother single-handedly. Even her brothers sought the conspiratorial aid of siblings against her legendary wrath whenever possible. I hope you enjoyed this week's snippet that I posted for Elizabeth. I've been sharing from my current WIP, The Tree of Life. Isis is telling her husband, Osiris, about the jaguar shapeshifter, Rio, she saw in the Jungles of Brazil, someone who as she explained to Osiris..."I commanded him to stay." “I’m surprised you didn’t bring him back with you then.” “What? Why did we have to give chase?” Luc demanded. “How did he get away?” Andrew asked through a mouth full of bread, stepping to his mother's side. “How could he leave if you commanded him?” Kirin asked simultaneously, amidst the chaos of confusion Isis’ statement had created. “I believe his exact words were, you don’t own me, witch,” Isis said, her voice rising as the thought of it brought color to her cheeks and irritation back to her attitude. “What in Hades did that little upstart pussy say?” roared Osiris, fists clenched, the smile lines around his mouth now pushed down by the downward force of heavy creases between his eyebrows. Kirin gasped. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth this week. Continuing with my current WIP, The Tree of Life, we are in the secret underground headquarters of Osiris, an undiscovered pyramic in Egypt.... “I gathered as much. You will enlighten me, surely, my love.” “He was in my thoughts,” Isis said. “A first born then,” Osiris responded gesturing toward a cup of spiced tea a kneeling servant offered. “The shapeshifters have psychic ways, and there is some rumor that the purest blood line may still possess some magic too. We have known this for centuries.” When Isis extended her hand, he lifted the cup and handed it to her. The servant, head bowed, backed from their presence. Isis drank. When she lowered the glass, she looked into her husband’s eyes and said, “I commanded him to stay.” I hope you have enjoyed Elizabeth's snippet this week.
