We'll go on from there... “Rio,” she said, rushing headlong into his arms to be swung around and then hugged close. “Seraphina, I’ve missed you,” he said, stepping back to take a look at her. Golden eyes, much like his own, glistened with excitement at their reunion and accentuated her sun-kissed skin. Her hair, darker than his, hung to her waist and held a mahogany sheen his keen eyes picked up even in the faint light provided by the open elevator door. “Stunning as ever. Am I in time to beat down any aggressive curs?” “Ever the big brother,” she countered, laughing. “Thank the stars you are home at last.” Her look sobered and she grew serious. “Trouble is coming, Rio. We are in terrible danger.” I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. I like the twisty trees in Sedona. They make me want to chase them, but I am too busy looking in the mirror right now. I went to the groomer today and if I do say so myself, I look very handsome. Elizabeth thinks it's a little short and asked me if I had joined the military. I posted her book trailer below. Stolen Secrets is now available on preorder (whatever that is)! We left off at Kirin trying to get her parents to let her accompany her brother Luc to America to find Rio, He managed to get away from them once, in Rio, and then in the rainforests of Brazil he shapeshifted and escaped from her mother. They have found out that he is in Sedona, and Isis wants him captured and sent to the underworld. Kirin has other plans, but doesn't want her mother to know or interfere. Rio thought of his gift as a curse, a curse that her ancestors had caused. He couldn’t know that of course. Could he? “It’s settled then,” her father was saying. “Muhktar’s a great operative,” Luc said. “He just helped return Ornias to where he belonged.” “This scientist is hardly evil, and certainly not a Jinn,” Kirin snapped, before she could stop herself. “And you know this how?” Sekhmet asked, her attention riveted to Kirin’s face and her eyebrows lifted in curious expectation. Kirin clamped her jaws together. She could feel her mother’s stare boring into her, knowing with certainty without even probing her thoughts that Kirin knew more than she would admit. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth today. She has been sick all week and had something called hives because she took some medicine she was allergic to. She scratched more than a doggie without flea medicine, but when I tried to lick the little bumps and make them better she stopped me. They finally went away by themselves, not if only her cold would go away too. She's not nearly as much fun as usual! ;( Please visit the other Weekend Writing Warriors and #snippetsunday authors for more great reads!

Since Stolen Secrets, my Illuminati Fantasy Romance Spin-Off novel is in final edits and will be released soon, I am going to share some more from my second book in the Illuminati Series which will be coming out next: The Tree of Life. The royal immortals are gathered and discussing who will be going to Sedona, AZ, after Rio, the Black Jaguar shapeshifter whose family genetic "defects" are the responsibility of the ancients, the ancestors of the royal immortal family, the Illuminati founders. “I know who Mukhtar is, I was just wondering why you felt the need to send him with us to America when he's to be married soon, and--” “Yes, and we are all invited and wouldn’t think of missing the wedding,” Osiris said. “The wedding is still two months away. His going with you will keep him out of the way while the bride plans the wedding,” Isis insisted. Dammit, Kirin thought. Her mother was determined to control Rio’s capture. He wasn’t just some monster, a genetic defect as Sekhmet claimed. She was sure of it. No way was she letting them imprison him in the underworld with the true beasts and monsters. He was an intelligent human, a brilliant scientist who just happened to have a rare gift. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I sure did. I got a new toy and lots of doggie treats and had so much fun playing with my family. The snippet I posted for Elizabeth today is from her Work in Progress. The heroine, Lady Isabella Valentine, has been hired to retrieve the same artifact from an anonymous benefactor, who has sent a helper, David Khoury, to assist her on the archaeological dig. Prince Mukhtar wishes to change her mind. Here’s a bit from where I left off last week, with the prince speaking to Isabella in her antiquities shop, right after she told him someone else already hired her . . . "The chalice itself is not essential, if it is already sought by another. What we seek is the symbol not revealed here in this sketch. It may be a missing key for the interpretation of another artifact.” “Oh, I honestly don’t know if that is a possibility or not. I can speak to my client and discover whether or not they object to what you suggest,” Isabella said, managing to pull her hand free, and burying it in the folds of her skirt. She took a step back. His request seemed perfectly innocent, but she was convinced it was anything but transparent and she couldn’t think straight with him gazing into her eyes like that. He was so close she could smell the appealing aroma of rich espresso with cinnamon he had enjoyed recently. It was her own favorite after work pick-me-up. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth this week. I'm sure glad NaNo is over! Now I get more attention and lots and lots of hugs. My treats are on time again too. Yea! It's NaNoWriMo, and my very first time participating in it, so of course you will be getting excerpts from my WIP, a novella, Stolen Secrets! If you have been following Book II of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life, you will know that I just introduced a minor character, Prince Mukhtar, who appears in both Book I, The Book of Life, and Book 11, of the Illuminati Series. He is also the hero of a Romance Fantasy Novella I am writing for NaNoWriMo, a little spinoff adventure! In it, Isis has sent him to retrieve a chalice to be used in a ceremony that will break the spell the jinni, Ornias (from my short horror story) has cast upon the Ring of Solomon, before their mortal enemy, Set, can get his hands on it. The heroine, Lady Isabella Valentine, has been hired to retrieve the same artifact from an anonymous benefactor, who has sent a helper, David Khoury, to assist her on the archaeological dig. Here’s a bit from where I left off last week . . . (*Note: It's NaNo, so may be a bit rough in spots.) “W-what?” She glanced toward the door and noted two more Bedouins, standing sentry on either side of the entryway. More, she knew, would be outside, no doubt tending to the beautiful black stallion of Prince Mukhtar, eldest son and heir of Sheikh Abdul Kummel al-Rahman, Leader of the Hassana. The gold agal of his kuffiyah might as well have been a crown, but the entourage he traveled with assured his identity could not be mistaken. “Forgive me, Lady Valentine,” he replied, this time in flawless English. “Allow me to introduce myself.” She held up her hand, and said, “No need for that, Prince Mukhtar. Everyone in Cairo knows who you are. But please do explain what you are talking about.” He bowed his head politely, and took a step closer. Looking down at her, he said softly, “Of course, My Lady, with pleasure; I wish to procure your services as an archaeologist. I seek this,” he said, pulling a drawing from somewhere within his robe and extending it toward her. I hope you enjoyed the snippet I posted for Elizabeth this week as she is crazy busy with something called NaNo. It isn't something you can eat. I figured that much out, as I had to remind her twice that it was time for my snack! Harumph! Continuing with my current WIP, The Tree of Life, we are in the secret underground headquarters of Osiris, an undiscovered pyramic in Egypt.... “I gathered as much. You will enlighten me, surely, my love.” “He was in my thoughts,” Isis said. “A first born then,” Osiris responded gesturing toward a cup of spiced tea a kneeling servant offered. “The shapeshifters have psychic ways, and there is some rumor that the purest blood line may still possess some magic too. We have known this for centuries.” When Isis extended her hand, he lifted the cup and handed it to her. The servant, head bowed, backed from their presence. Isis drank. When she lowered the glass, she looked into her husband’s eyes and said, “I commanded him to stay.” I hope you have enjoyed Elizabeth's snippet this week. I've been sharing from my current WIP The Tree of Life. When we left off, Rio, in Shapeshifter form, had managed to escape from one of the Vargas clan.We will be opening on a new chapter and in a new setting-- Egypt, in a hidden pyramid, headquarters of Osiris... “One of yours was there, in the jungles of Brazil.” “One of mine, my queen?” Osiris pushed back his chair and rose from the matching carved and gilded desk at which he had been working. His gaze, as he cornered the desk, swept his wife’s shapely form with a familiar appreciation that separations and millennia had never dulled. “A bit more specific perhaps?” he coaxed and swooped in to capture her mouth and take advantage of the parted lips attempting to comply with his previous request. Behind them, Andrew cleared his throat. Seeing that his father had every intention of ignoring him, he rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulder against the door jamb to wait. Luc walked over to a small table and filled a glass with lightly spiced, heavily chilled tea. He held it up, gesturing toward the dispenser. Kirin shook her head, declining his offer, and continued across the room to sit cross-legged on the wide, plush couch tossed liberally with overstuffed pillows. I've been sharing from my WIP, The Tree of Life. Rio, in shapeshifter form, has been spying on the Vargas clan. A VIP has just arrived, and he is busy observing the frantic activity surrounding that arrival, when... Who are you? His attention flew back to her face. She was staring straight at him, and she saw him. She was inside his head, with him. Don’t let her know your name, he schooled himself. She was there with him. With the other him. Rio lifted his paw to flee. Don’t go. It wasn't a request. I hope you enjoyed this week's snippet. I've been sharing from my current work in progress, Book 2 of my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life. We just discovered that Rio, the hero is a Black Jaguar shapeshifter. He is in cat form and trying to discover who the intruders are in his jungle and what they are up to... ::Caution:: Some creative punctuation may follow to meet the requirements of the blog rules.
As soon as the men were far enough away, the cat jumped and raced after the vehicle. Sleek and sure-footed, able to move quickly through terrain where the truck must creep cautiously, it didn’t take long to find them; but once he did, he was surprised to discover their destination because he’d been to the ancient ruins many times in the past and it seemed an unlikely place to set up a base camp.
He would have liked to get closer, but care was needed if he was going to remain undetected and gather information. Rio jumped into a tree about fifty yards from the entrance he knew led nowhere but a collapsed wall overgrown with vines and waited to discover what further secrets would be revealed. The truck parked and as he had suspected the area was quickly flooded with lights. Distracted by the activity of the men unloading, he didn’t at first notice Kirin because he scented her companion first. Ears back, nostrils flared, hairs bristling, his throat constricted, and only with a supreme effort did Rio manage to keep his other self from growling at the leopard brushing with casual affection against Kirin’s leg as she emerged from the darkness of the ruin. Then the smaller cat, having sensed Rio’s presence and with no need for concealment snapped its head in his direction and growled a warning. “Easy, Raja,” Kirin said softly, bending to scratch the pet behind his ear, but she too looked in Rio’s direction as Roscoe stepped from the ruin and Rio’s nails dug deeply into the tree bark while he remembered the man’s remark regarding the tracking device and Rio becoming a pet. He looked at the leopard again, and was relieved to see that Kirin at least had the decency not to adorn it with a humiliating jeweled collar or bowed Velcro shirt. She turned to speak to Roscoe as the men approached with the gurney. The cat moved forward and sat, staring at him, clearly placing itself as sentry between his mistress and the perceived threat, Rio.

I've been posting from my current WIP, Book 2 in my Illuminati series, The Tree of Life. Today you learn a little more about the hero, Rodrigo, whose nickname the heroine has found out is Rio. ::Caution:: Tweeked for sentence demands of Blog rules!
Rio walked deeper into the forest and breathed in the familiar odors, because the other, his darker, more primitive self that he kept locked away deep inside, hidden and almost tamed, was awakening and restless.
It was the other who increased his pace into a steady jog, and the other made his skin tingle and itch and his fingertips clench and uncurl and his toes scrunch up and squash within the confines of his boots. He pushed back, just a bit more, and the other squeezed his throat, making him growl, though it came out more a cough in sound. Almost there, he shoved through some interlaced root outcroppings and came upon a small pond. At last, his shirt was wrenched from his pants and ripped open, and he shrugged it off quickly and let it fall. His pants soon followed, and then it felt so good to tug out of his boots and socks, wading into the water. Rio dove down, a few glorious strokes later, he let himself relax, and let the beast free. His skull broadened and his jaw widened, becoming powerful enough for the incisors this other was so fond of to fit in his mouth. He surfaced and breathed; the skin on his body had already been replaced by fine black hair with darker rosettes, widely spaced and dotted with dark spots. Reaching out with a wide paw, he sliced through the water and headed for shore. Once there, he shook the water from his broad-shouldered, muscular body and stretched, relishing the release from physical restriction and confining domestic habitats the two-hundred-and–fifty-pound black jaguar padded over to Rio’s pile of clothes and raked the ground with razor-sharp claws so that they would remain undisturbed until his return because Rio might try to tame his inner beast, but his other self was king in this rainforest, and knew it.
