It's so hard for people who work on computers (me) all day to stay fit. There isn't a human being over 40 who doesn't know what happens to "it" even before you spent so much time sitting on it! Not only aren't you burning as many calories as, say, a construction worker or an aerobics instructor, but writers often do this at home. There's a frig there. And there's snacks. And procrastination. You get where this is going, right? After/during menopause, nature and gravity do horrific, evil, unjust and undeserved things to your body. Hm, I seem to have developed a certain attitude about these oh-so-natural biological changes. But I'm sure you will agree that you can only stand so straight and suck it in for so long before your midrift informs you that it exists. I know, right? Before my 50s my midrift was just the place an empire waist rested. Forget the mushroom tops! This is some serious stuff! I should probably start an Insecure Body Image Support Group, but a lot of the same people would probably join. That said, please tell me what YOU do to stay fit. If you eat the same, but burn fewer calories...yikes! Please help me out with some healthy snack and I-don't-want-to-work-out exercise ideas. Below is my contribution: Eat More, Lose More! --great article! Snacking, the secret to weight loss success! Here's lookin' at you, kid! The Insecure Writer’s Support Group Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds! Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time. Don't forget to thank Alex and this month's awesome co-hosts for the June 4 posting of the IWSG are C. Lee McKenzie, Tracy Jo, Melanie Schulz, and LG Keltner!

You're so right. It's hard to move while you're writing, so scheduling in time for walks, hikes, workouts is essential. And those potato chips should stay in the bag. Reach for the strawberries instead. Here's to a healthy writing year.

Thanks! Strawberries are yummy too! I also love watermellon. Summer fruits are so nice. One thing nice about living in AZ is that I can't use the weather as an excuse not to get outside and move!

Since I am facing the big fifty this year, I do my best to stay in shape by eating healthy and exercising. My wife still looks awesome, so I have to keep myself up!
