Pepi Le Pew made me laugh as a child, and he still cracks me up today. I hope you enjoy this stroll down memory lane as much as I did. It made me think about how I came to know about romantic love and what it means to me, what it means to most people.
As a writer I spend more time than some therapists analyzing how people interact, what motivates them. Most all people want to find love, but what is love? Love is only a four-letter word, an idea, a concept, for all of us, until someone gives it meaning. And therein lies the secret.
Love is finding that someone with whom you wish to spend all your free time. Forever. That person you want to turn to and say, "look at that!" or, "can you believe it?" You don't have to ask them to wrap their arms around you when you're sad, or when you're not. You don't wonder if they will help you out; you reach for their helping hand without turning your head, knowing their hand is already outstretched. Such a feeling of security and well being! Does it sound something like friendship? Well, true love means being friends, companions, partners, and lovers.
Having someone whose eyes meet yours across a crowded room and seeing that they understand your thoughts is uniquely wonderful. So too is having someone's smile reach their eyes when they see you, even if you're just entering a room and you've been married for decades.
That's what love means to this newlywed. What does it mean to you?
I blog there the 18th of each month!
