Review of SAVED BY THE RANCHER

Rarely does an author make me care so deeply about a character as quickly as Ryan had me rooting for team Jenna.  Her problems are real, and her bravery and intelligence in overcoming them admirable.  I worried the plot might be predictable, but there were plenty of twists and turns. Some readers found the subject matter (domestic violence) uncomfortable, but I felt it was well-written, which made the scenes realistic. Domestic violence is ugly and wrong.  Ryan doesn’t shy away from the reality of it or sugar-coat the escalation. Almost always it escalates, too frequently to murder.

Jenna’s grit and refusal to give in to the brutal demands of a mentally disturbed ex-husband, AKA control freak on an hubris high, is truly heroic.  It reminded me of Lopez in “Enough”.  Jenna , too, faced the reality of her situation and led her stalker on a cat and mouse chase few less self-empowered women would have survived.  It was fast-paced and suspenseful. The new love interest   and his relentless determination to protect her, even if from her own habitual running that enabled her ex’s chase game,  and  her ex’s inevitable comeuppance added a very satisfying conclusion to this intense plot.
