IN 2013 A NEW MOBILE APP WAS QUIETLY LAUNCHED ON ITUNES. IT QUICKLY BECAME THE FASTEST GROWING MOBILE APP IN HISTORY. IT WAS CALLED TUNA LIFE, AND FOR A BRIEF MOMENT IT CATAPULTED AUSTRALIA AND THE GOLD COAST INTO THE LIMELIGHT OF THE TECH WORLD. BUT NOT ALL WAS GOOD ON THE COAST. GIRLS HAD BEEN DISAPPEARING FOR YEARS…. Andrew Engels, a bored accountant, has an epiphany when he walks into an auditorium where kids barely out of high school are presenting new business ideas. It changes his life. It changes everything. Scott Davis, an experienced crime reporter at the Gold Coast Times, has recently been reassigned to cover business news for his struggling employer. When he starts digging about the new economy, where teenagers become overnight-millionaires on half-baked ideas and empty promises of future revenues, he finds a lot more than he expected. Girls have been disappearing from the coast for years. Could their cases be somewhat connected? And do we really know what we agree to when we download a mobile app? What sort of power do we allow companies like Tuna Life to possess over their users? Read the story that captures the essence of the exploding mobile app industry. But be warned: You may very well reconsider downloading that next app onto your phone…. Set in the Australian Gold Coast, this book grabs your attention from page one and holds on to it through a well-developed, continually unwinding plot line and character development. Despite the mobile apps are going to take over the universe and bring about social destruction theme, there is enough intrigue and suspense to entertain even those for whom app download is a foreign language. The plot brings together a rather bizarre mixture of people, from a washed up reporter, a failed accountant who starts his own tech company, a Russian Businessman, and some missing girls. Hamre manages to make a logical connection between this strange cast of characters and wraps all the loose ends up neatly. Book Bling gives this novel 4 1/2 stars! Erik Hamre spent the better part of the last decade working in the banking industry in Australia. Before that he worked in corporate banking and the finance industry in Norway. He has a Master of Business and Economics from The Norwegian School of Management and a MBA from Bond University Australia. He resides on the Gold Coast in Queensland, with his wife and son. In 2013 he retired from business to focus on writing and golf. He still sucks at golf. You can be the judge of his writing. You can contact Erik on [email protected]
