I've been sharing from my soon-to-be-released short story, The Opal Ring, in which Jasmine is trying to escape her evil uncle with the help of a Jinn, and her father's magic show contract with a Vegas talent scout. When we left out, the talent scout had just granted her father the coveted contract, and Jasmine is about to find out what she really owes the Jinn for granting her wishes.
“What?” Her beautiful sweet mother had fed the Jinn souls? Sinful souls like her uncle’s? “The Jinn killed momma?”
“She just couldn’t make herself available to all those hideous, evil perverts any more, the kind of dark souls the Jinn savors. She would never have led the Jinn to her own beloved daughter. I saw the ring on her finger when I closed her casket myself!” He staggered back, clutching at his chest.
“Father!” Jasmine rushed forward, grabbing his arm. “What is it?”
“Just out of breath. Nothing,” he said, gasping. But then his knees buckled, and he fell to the floor, doubled over in pain.

Oh no! Looks like she may have to pay with her father's life. Sounds like an intriguing story! :)

Yes, Jinn take but seldom give back what is expected. Thanks, Jessica!

I can see why he's having a panic attack when he knows the ring was buried and now it suddenly is not. Intrigued.

It would certainly freak me out, too, Karen! Thanks!

That's not a good thing. Hopefully this isn't as bad as it seems.
10/10/2016 12:50:39 pm
It just seems to get worse and worse when you mess with a jinni, doesn't it, Daryl?
10/9/2016 10:53:27 pm
I suspect the nasty jinn had something to do with this. Hope the heart attack isn't fatal.
10/10/2016 12:52:07 pm
They really can be nasty creatures, can't they, Ed? First her mom...hopefully not her dad too!
10/10/2016 12:53:01 pm
Aw, thanks, Iris. I appreciate the visit and your kind words.

I'm wondering if the jinn isn't happy with him spilling the beans about what he expects in return for his favors.
10/14/2016 07:41:16 am
Good observation, P T! It's kinda scary to imagine how evil a being becomes who ingests only evil souls! Eeck!
10/17/2016 08:39:45 pm
Uh oh... I get the sinking feeling the Jinn is collecting on what he wants for the favor. Or he's just one pissed off entity from her father spilling those secrets. Either way, run. I do wonder if that's the case, HOW is the Jinn hearing this?
